ABOUT US

The Hydrogen Journal / Behind Hydrogen

The Hydrogen Journal is a news service for the hydrogen industry, covering developments in fuel cells, technology, hydrogen supply, storage, projects and regulatory policy.

Behind Hydrogen is an online social network for people involved in the world wide hydrogen industry, so you can get in contact with other people in the industry, privately or publicly, and share news about what you are doing.

We believe that a hydrogen-based energy system is the only way that we can manage society's energy needs in the medium future, which can be made on a big enough scale.

Many people question the relative benefits of battery cars vs hydrogen cars. Whilst battery cars might be more viable today, they are still dependent on scarce chemicals and have a limited range.

Once hydrogen becomes more easily available, and there are some small advances in fuel cell technology, we believe that the benefits of hydrogen / fuel cell cars will overtake battery cars, and certainly, whatever happens, hydrogen / fuel cells will be a major contender.

To quote Amory Lovins of the Rocky Mountain Institute (from his white paper " TWenty Hydrogen Myths" Feb 2005, "Although batteries’ energy density, life, and cost can be considerably improved, it is still probably easier to make a good fuel cell than a good battery, and the comparative advantage of the technologies that compete with batteries is probably more likely to expand than to shrink."

But there are plenty of benefits to a hydrogen fuel system, aside from motor vehicles.

Imagine if communities around the world could all have continuous electricity supplies, without being beholden to any large companies, governments or local tyrants? A solar / Wind + hydrogen system makes this possible.

The lack of steady electricity supplies is often cited as a big impediment to development in Africa and India. Electricity is needed to keep vaccines cool, as well as power communications equipment people need to learn and do business.

2010 is often cited as the year that the hydrogen economy will take off, as fuel cells become perceived as viable for widespread use on vehicles, buildings and portable electronics.

As we start the countdown to 2010, this is the time to cement your business and technology knowledge, business relationships and market positioning - and The Hydrogen Journal is the tool to help you do it.

We offer a free online news service and company directory, shortly to be supplemented by a print / pdf magazine and online networking facility, which will help you keep up to date with new developments, find organisations and individuals you want to build relationships with, and tell the world what your company can do.

It is early days for The Hydrogen Journal - we were founded in August 2008 - but if you see the potential of the contribution we can make, please help us get started by registering for our free e-mail newsletter on our website, and joining our Behind Hydrogen social network

Our aim is to contribute to the growth of a business to business market in hydrogen, fuel cell components, valves, separators, catalysts, blocks, fuel cells, electrolysers, hydrogen storage technology, consulting, training, and end user understanding, which will be necessary for the hydrogen economy to make the difficult steps from where it is now, to where every town has a hydrogen fuel station.
