Savannah River National Laboratory’s Dr. Ragaiy Zidan gets DOE hydrogen award
Applications, July  15  2010 (The Hydrogen Journal)

- Dr Ragaiy Zidan of Savannah River National Laboratory, South Carolina, has received a US Department of Energy Hydrogen Program Team Award for his work on hydrogen storage, according to the Aiken Standard.

The award was presented that the Department of Energy's Annual Merit Review and Peer Evaluation Meeting for hydrogen, fuel cells and advanced vehicle technologies, which had around 1,000 attendees.

Dr Zidan received the award for his contributions to developing electrochemical methods for aluminium hydride (alane) regeneration, to develop a closed cycle for producing the hydrogen storage material.

Aluminium hydride was previously considered impractical as a hydrogen storage material because of the high pressures required to combine hydrogen and aluminium together to reform the hydride after the hydrogen has been released.

Dr Zidan and his colleagues developed an electrochemical cycle which could regenerate the aluminium hydride.
