10 fuel cell scooters for $350,000

- Asia Pacific Fuel Cell Technologies of Taiwan is offering a 10 fuel cell scooter package for $350,000, including 10 scooters, 40 hydrogen canisters, one stationary hydrogen recharger, one portable hydrogen recharger, 10 hours training and semi annual maintenance, with 1 year or 10,000km warranty.
The company has test ridden its fuel cell scooter 1000km around Taiwan, in a four day trip held on May 10-13 2010. The company claims that this is the world record for a fuel cell scooter test ride.
During the trip, it encountered many different severe weather conditions, including strong sun with high heat for long hours and heavy rain fall, the company says.
The scooter was fuelled by metal hydride hydrogen canisters, which can be exchanged in under a minute. Each canister can propel the scooter around 85km.
The scooter used was built using "mass production" the company says, and had ridden under 5km before the event. All its components are designed by Taiwanese companies.
