Taiwan -Asia’s first fuel cell powered UAV

- The first unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in Asia powered bya fuel cell and lithium battery has made a maiden flight in Taiwan on Thursday May 13, according to reports by Taiwan's Central News Agency (CNA).

The flight was in Pingtung County's Ligang Township.

The UAV is called the "Grey faced Buzzard" and flew for 15 minutes at 80-100 kph, at an altitude of under 300m.

Manager of the project is Lewis W.H. Lai, an aerospace engineering professor at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in Tainan City.

It cost USD 16k to build, weighs 22kg, is nearly 2m long and produces around 1kW of power.

The project team will now looking at increasing the flight time to 3 hours.
