Los Angeles tests hydrogen fuel cell trucks
Transportation, Jan 29 2010 (The Hydrogen Journal)
- The Port of Los Angeles has announced plans to evaluate and possibly purchase fuel cell hybrid electric trucks, developed by Vision Industries.
It follows government mandates to find ways to reduce emissions from trucks in the port.
The trucks are used for short and medium distance cargo hauling in the port region.
Vision Industries has been marketing its hydrogen fuel cell hybrid electric truck for over a year now. Its trucks have both fuel cells and lithium batteries and have a range of 'up to' 400 miles.
Vision Industries claims that the trucks are 30 to 40 per cent less expensive to operate than diesel trucks.
The trucks will be tested in varying applications, carrying different loads, on different road conditions and on different travel distances, with the help of a number of Los Angeles local trucking ("drayage") companies.
