Ballard receives CDN $4.8m for fuel cell buses research
Transportation, Jan  29  2010 (The Hydrogen Journal)

- Ballard Power Systems of Vancouver, Canada, has received "up to" CDN $4.8m from government agency Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) to further develop fuel cell powers for transit buses.

It will develop an improved fuel cell power system, which will be tested on buses in the Vancouver region starting in the fourth quarter of 2010.

"This level of support from the Canadian federal government and SDTC will have a measurable impact on the evolution of clean energy fuel cell products for commercial mass transit applications here in Canada and in locations around the globe," says Ballard.

Most of the work will go into components of the fuel cell power module and hybrid electric drive system, aiming to reduce cost, improve durability and robustness.
