Nissan leases fuel cell vehicle to Coca Cola
Fuel Cells, Nov 25 2009 (The Hydrogen Journal)
- Nissan North America has leased one of its X-TRAIL Fuel Cell Vehicles (FCV) to Sacramento Coca-Cola Bottling Company, for a year.
Nissan describes it as its 'first commercial FCV lease in North America', following 13 years of running fuel cell vehicles in demonstration fleets.
Coca-Cola will use the vehicle for sales calls and public events in Sacramento.
"Sacramento already has the beginning of a hydrogen infrastructure in place, and Sacramento Coca-Cola has a track record of utilizing low emissions cars," says Nissan.
The vehicle is based on Nissan's X-Trail Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), avaialble in Mexico, Japan and Europe. The vehicle has a range of 300 miles.
Nissan says that it has tested similar vehicles of around 300,000 miles in testing, with one vehicle alone going nearly 100,000 miles.
Nissan is also testing a "next generation" fuel cell stack which is 25 per cent smaller than this one and will be cheaper to build.
Nissan thinks there is a fun parallel between how the vehicle has no emissions, and it will be used to promote Coca Cola's zero calorie drink.
